Making Sense Out Of Chaos!

Please tell me that I am not the only one that has a desk that sometimes turns into this! Folded laundry not yet put away. Socks waiting to be matched! Child's homework along with the news paper, magazines, and mail that have yet to be read. One empty water bottle, glue gun (from projects), a scrunchy, sunglasses, keys, empty dry fruit package, and various other objects discarded on my desk. It is complete chaos and trying to do anything that requires concentration is out of the question. For me, things feel out of control when my desk is like this. No these aren't staged photos, it is the current state of my desk!

Embarrassing! It is no wonder why it is so hard to get anything done. Lost bills, homework, or other important papers can bring unneed stress. Lost keys or sunglasses can be time consuming to find. Clutter has a tendency to breed more clutter until it literally takes over one's life.

Everything needs a place and the things that don't belong here shouldn't be here. These pictures serve to outline how important it is to your productivity and mental clarity that things be put in their proper place and that organization is maintained daily. More often than not, when my desk gets like this (usually on the weekends), I find that nothing gets finished or sometimes even started. The cleaner the surroundings, the better that I can give each of my duties their proper attention. It isn't always easy, but the more it gets done, the easier it gets. Then, and only then, do I feel calm and centered.

Fortunately, this story has a happy ending. Is it perfect? Of course not, nor am I. But everything has a place. When I need to get to the planners to do the bills, I know exactly where they are. Magazines are stacked neatly so that when time permits they are easily accessible. Sunglasses and keys are where they can be found at a moments notice. Most importantly, when I sit at the desk I can feel productive and clear minded just by making sense out of the chaos!
